How to distinguish between Category:Number XXX on road signs, Category:Signs for roads numbered XXX, and Category:Number XXX on highway signs?

Sorry I'm too new to distinguish them, in all three kinds of categories, I can see either computer-made or real-world pictured signs (or sometimes downloaded from official highway bureaus). Anyway, which for pure XXX signs, and which for those that have prefixes/suffixes like AXXX, EXXX, MXXX, XXXA, XXXE, XXXM... --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 07:41, 9 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. I have never used those categories. --Rschen7754 05:02, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't use them either. In fact, I actively remove them when I see them. I don't think they are helpful to anyone trying to find the images. –Fredddie 06:01, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Which is correct for Australian route signs?

Currently we do have 1169 files (iirc) that are about the topic, and many of them are marked as {{PD-ineligible}}, {{PD-self}}, {{PD-user}}, {{GFDL}} or others, on the other hand, en:Category:Diagrams of Australian highway markers has 1137 files (also iirc), and include {{PD-ineligible}} and "Do not move to Commons" templates, @Rschen7754: to make sure I do not make many mistakes here, I need to know that if PD-ineligible is suitable for them in AUS, or they are copyrighted in AUS and can't be freely licensed? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:02, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Evad37: for more details - but what I have been told is that because 1) the threshold of originality in Australia is very low and 2) Australia doesn't consider government works to be PD - then it fails the "must not be copyrighted in the country of origin" clause. --Rschen7754 05:15, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yep, what Rschen7754 said. The images on enwiki are copied from designs in a copyrighted document, so even though in terms of U.S. copyright they are PD-ineligible, they are not suitable for Commons until the Australian copyright has expired. - Evad37 [talk] 07:40, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Evad37 and Rschen7754: Umm, someone in Commons:Deletion requests/files in Category:Australian state route signs (indeed, filed by me) pointed me that AS1744 might be a free license reason? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:20, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Submitted another set: Commons:Deletion requests/files in Category:State Route shields of Australia. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 05:13, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
A recent respond says that such signs are licensed as CC BY 4.0 in Queensland, and maybe in NSW. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:55, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

This sign is likely set up by the park and not by the highway system (i.e. not a traditional road sign) so I am not familiar with the rules. --Rschen7754 18:04, 3 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
