Hello @Romaine,

Suriname participates for the first time in WLM and WMNL supports them, therefore we would like to request a banner. Aruba and Suriname are active and both have a landingspage. The WLM banner in Dutch is visible in Aruba, NL, Belgium and Suriname, but to which landingspage does the banner link? What do we have to do to give both participants equal visibility? I hope my question is clear. ThamaraGroenleer (talk) 09:33, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi ThamaraGroenleer, If a local team is ready, I will create a banner and it is not needed to request it. What I check for is that your landing page is ready (seems so) and that there is a text in the local language (seems so). So Suriname is ready to go. The banner is scheduled to be activated in the hour after the start of the contest (local time).
The banners of WLM are geo-targeted. This means that the banner is only visible in those areas in the world where at that moment Wiki Loves Monuments is organised. To my information, WLM is not organised in Belgium or the Netherlands, but is in Aruba and Suriname. So someone in the Netherlands normally will not see a banner. Based on the users IP addresses a user in Suriname or Aruba will see the banner that links to the landing page of Aruba or to the landing page of Suriname. (It can happen that some people do see a banner while not being in the country, or do not see a banner will being in the country. This is often the result of a user having travelled abroad, and still having a foreign IP address in their device. Another possibility is that the user uses a prosy or VPN.)
This will also means that people having their roots in Aruba or Suriname, but living in for example the Netherlands, probably do not see the banner, while they may have photos of monuments. Therefore it is good to not only rely on the banner, but also use for example social media to reach out to people and communities. That is something the local team needs to do yourself. PS: The landing page is only in Dutch. It can happen that not everyone who see the banner for Aruba or Suriname understands Dutch. Therefore the international team asks local teams also to have somewhere a page or section in English for non-Dutch speakers, so they can participate in the contest with photos from Aruba and Suriname as well. Please add to this page where the English text can be found. Romaine (talk) 12:13, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your explanation! The English translation will be up tomorrow. ThamaraGroenleer (talk) 13:17, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

edit

hello Romaine, we would like to request changing the uk text for the banner (it is now set for UA and RU, which works for us). we just want a clearer message in Ukrainian. would that be possible? the next text we would like to have is:

Змагайтеся за призи у «Вікі любить пам’ятки» — подавайте фото/відео для Вікіпедії!

sorry for additional work! --アンタナナ 10:50, 20 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
