'Reformed Church, Great School and Market Place' titled information boards. - Based on these: In 1796, based on the plans of Károly Rabl, the city's first storey, arcaded building was built, a nine-classroom school, which was called the Great School or Boys' School by the inhabitants. János Arany and the poet Tamás Kiss were assistants in this- It was built with nine classrooms, two teachers' rooms and three rentable business premises on the ground floor. In 1882, under the direction of mining engineer Vilmos Zsigmondy, the city's first artesian well was drilled in the square in front of the school. In the 1800s, the local 'Thursday' market of local producers and artisans operated on the south side of Main Street, between Kossuth Lajos Street and the Reformed Church, from 1891 until the 2020s on Tuesdays and Saturdays. - Another sign: the area of the park is the highest point of the settlement, 87.65 m. This is why the church was built here, today the landscaped area is now Kálvin Square. Around 1717-1720 the first Reformed church with 'patics' (wood-cane-reed-mud) walls was built. Next to it, the so-called fire watchtower was built of stone in 1741-1743, which is now part of the church. In 1755 an adobe church was built with Wenceslas Csermák, a master builder from Debrecen. The present church was built between 1785 and 1788, and at the time of its construction the ceremonies were held in a prayer hall.
