Description
English: The interior of the catholic church o Aghios Dionysios Aeropagitis, the catholic cathedral of Athens. The temple was designed by Leo von Klenze (1784-1864) and the designs were modified by Lysandros Kaftatzoglou (1811-1885). Above the nave is the fresco representing the Apotheosis of Saint Dionysius the Areopagite (1890), work of Italian painter Guglielmo Bilancioni (1836-1907). The church floor is paved with Pentelic marble. The nave is supported by 12 columns of 5 meters of green marble from Tinos.
Français : L'intérieur de l'église Saint Denys l'Aréopagite, cathédrale catholique romaine d'Athènes, Grèce. Les plans sont de Leo von Klenze (1784 - 1864), modifiés par Lysandros Kaftatzoglou (1811 - 1885). L'abside est ornée d'une fresque représentant l'apothéose de Saint Denys l'Aréopagite, oeuvre du peintre italien Guglielmo Bilanconi (1836 - 1907). Le sol est pavé de carreaux de marbre du Pentélique, et la nef est soutenue par douze colonnes de cinq mètres, en marbre vert de Tinos. Denys l'Aréopagite, converti par Saint-Paul, est le premier évêque d'Athènes.
