Согласно описанию на табличке: "ИЖ «Лидер» - это единственный экспериментальный образец эскортного мотоцикла с роторно-поршневым двигателем. В качестве силового агрегата был установлен 2-секцинный роторно-поршневой мотор РД-601. При рабочем объеме в 613 см3, он выдавал мощность 52 л.с. при 6000 об/мин и максимальный крутящий момент в 51Нм (при 3500 об/мин). Установка была разработана в Тольятти и во многом унифицирована с ВАЗ-овскими роторными агрегатами, которые в те времена уже начали активно ставить на автомобили для спецслужб."
