Springfield Silver Ghost

From 1921 – 1926, Silver Ghost chassis were also built for the American market in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA. These cars were originally substantially the same mechanically as the English Derby-built versions, but eventually left hand drive and centre gear-change were introduced. They differed mainly by their use of American coachwork and locally-sourced electrical equipment.

The Silver Ghost was the origin of Rolls-Royce's claim of making the "Best car in the world" – a phrase coined not by themselves, but by the prestigious publication Autocar in 1907. The chassis and engine were also used as the basis of a range of Rolls-Royce Armoured Cars.
