Description

The Austin Motor Company of England built cars from 1905 until 1952 when they merged with Morris Motors Limited to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), The Austin 7 was built in England from 1922-39, nicknamed the Baby Austin, it was a simple machine intended to provide the home mechanic the opportunity to race competitively, its lightweight made it high competitive. Parts were abundant and cheap. From 1924-34, rolling chassis were sent to Australia where Holden Motor Body Works added local custom built tourer and roadster bodies. Australia followed the trend in England to build sports versions of the Austin 7. In 1929, Flood Motor Body Works of St Kilda Rd, Melbourne built the Ace Standard Sports and Latrobe Motors of Latrobe St, Melbourne built the Latrobe Standard Sports. Other Australian coachbuilders included, Lonzar and Robinson, who along with Flood produced the Austin 7 'Meteor', also the 'Comet' by Connelley, the 'Moth' by Sykes and the 'Wasp' by Green. This is a Flood bodied Meteor, discovered in the late 1990's in a shed with a dirt floor and restored to its present condition
