Description

Originally the Ideal Motor Company. In 1911 they entered a car in the Indianapolis 500, finishing 11th, the next year, the company was renamed the Stutz Motor Company. From 1912-26, Stutz produced a road version, the famous Stutz Bearcat. The new 8-cylinder 'Safety Stutz' proved to be a breakthrough. The 1928 model won every American Stock Car race entered and was declared World Champion. The Blackhawk was produced in 1929 and 30, it wasn't as powerful, nor as expensive, as contemporary Stutzes, available with either an 85hp overhead cam six-cylinder or 95hp straight eight engine. A wide variety of open and closed body styles were available on the 127.5" wheelbase chassis. 1310 were built in 1929 and 280 in 1930
