GM created Pontiac in 1926, as a cheaper line of 6 cyl cars, sold beside the more expensive Oakland. The Pontiac was named after the famous Ottawa chief who had also given his name to the city of Pontiac in Michigan, where the car was produced. In 1933, the Oakland was dropped, leaving just the Pontiac, Pontiac was then sold as a companion for the 4 cyl Chevrolet. New for the 1936 Pontiac was the 'Silver Streak' trim; a bright metal band running along the hood and down the front of the radiator, a feature that lasted for 20 years. New styling in 1937 was based on the GM B body, the Pontiac got a new racy shaped nose and slant back windscreen, now available in 117in wheelbase 6CA Deluxe 6 or 122in wheelbase 8CA Deluxe 8 with dual spare tires. There were available in 2 door Coupe, Sport Coupe, Cabriolet, Sedan and Touring Sedan. 4 door Sedan, Touring Sedan and Convertible sedan. A 6CA Wagon available too
