Description1951 Jowett Jupiter Roadster (46851581892).jpg |
Jowett manufactured cars from 1906-54. Their intention was to provide a low weight vehicle at a low price and with low running costs. Following the launch of the all new Jowett Javelin and its successes in competition, Jowett decided to use its power train in a sports car for export. They featured a steel frame with an aluminium drophead coupé body with a bench seat for three people. There was no external access to the boot and the bonnet was rear hinged and opened complete with the wings. The Jowett factory made 731 Mk I and 94 Mk Ia cars. The Mk Ia came out in late 1952 with a little more power (63 bhp) and an opening lid to a boot of larger capacity. Engine; 60hp 1486cc flat four (Mk I) Racing derivatives were the 1951 R1, 3 made, 13th in the 1952 24hr at LeMans and the fibreglass body R4, Jowett closed before production, 3 prototypes were made |
