Ford had been producing factory made pickup trucks since 1925. In 1953, the F-1 Pickup became the F-100. With these 1953-56 second generation F Series pickups, the cab was extended, they got a stylish new grille, and longer hood that flowed into the front fenders. They were clean and modern, but they also tough, solid, practical, and ruggedly handsome. The 1953 F-100 was the first year the Ford-O-Matic was offered and the last year for the flathead V8, the next year the Y block was introduced. Available in Standard or Deluxe, the Deluxe had 'teeth' in the grille and a better appointed interior. Models available were; 1/2 ton F-100, 3/4 ton F-250, 1 ton F-350 and the 'Big Job' F-700.
