| Description | In 1959 the new Farina shaped bodies were introduced at Austin, the compact was the A40 Farina, the mid size, the A55 Cambridge and the large, the A99 Westminster. The Farina replaced the A35 and was built in England from 1959-67 Initially the rear window was fixed and the lower panel dropped down like a conventional boot, in 1959, the Countryman was introduced, it was a hatchback, the rear window also lifted up. The 1961 Mk II was slightly longer, got a new grille and dash and in 1962, the 948cc was replaced by the 1098cc from the Morris 1100 altho in a North-South configuration. It was also produced in Australia by BMC from 1959 to 1962. |
