CSX2287; C; Cobra S; Shelby X; Export, 2; Mk II, No 287 of 528 Shelby America took the antiquated AC Ace chassis from England, inserted a small block Ford V8 and reengineered the car to handle. They took the car to the world championship sports car racing and beat all rival brands including the existing champion, Ferrari. The Shelby Daytona Coupe had the AC Cobra's chassis and drive train, only 6 were built, they were produced to take on the Ferrari GTO, in the GT class on the World Sportscar Championship circuit, in 1964 and 65 (From 1966 on, it was the GT40) This car CSX2287 was the first to be built and the only one not to be restored, it won the GT class at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 1964, the first win for a Daytona Coupe |
