Description

The Herald was built from 1959-71. Replacing the Standard 8 and 10 Saloons, the Herald with its razor edge looks, brought Standard-Triumph right up with modern styling. Along with great all round visibility, it got a separate chassis rather than adopting the newer monocoque construction. The main body tub was bolted to the chassis and the whole front end hinged forward to allow access to the engine. Available as 2 door Coupe, Sedan, Estate and Convertible. Van introduced in 1962 From 1959 it got the 848cc OHV 4cyl engine. 1961; now called the Herald 1200, it got the larger 1147cc engine and identified by having white rubber bumpers. 1963; The sportier 12/50 with sliding fabric sunroof and disc brakes 1967; 13/60 now 1296cc, this update got a restyled bonnet similar to the Vitesse, but with only 2 headlights.

The Herald was also built in Australia by AMI from 1959-66, sold as the 12/50, they got the Vitesse 4 headlight front.
