| Description |
The Gazelle was built in England from 1956-67 and was a version of the Hillman Minx differing mainly in retaining the Singer overhead cam engine. Externally the only significant difference was a restyled nose based around a traditional Singer grille. The Singer Gazelle was also produced in Australia from 1957 to 1961 by Rootes Australia. Following the purchase of Rootes Australia in 1965, by Chrysler Australia, they were then called the Hillman Gazelle. Unique to the Australian built cars were the alloy head motor from the Sunbeam Rapier whereas the English Singer Gazelle has the cast iron head. The Series VI, from 1965-67, saw the biggest change to the model, with a new front end styling and larger 1725cc engine. |
