Description

The Javelin was AMCs 'Pony' Car, built from 1967 to 1974, only available as a 2 door, 4 seat Hardtop. A shorter 2 seater car was also available, the AMX. The 1st generation was 1968 and 69, then a redesign in 1970. The 1971-74 2nd generation became longer, lower, wider, and heavier than its predecessor, it also got integral roof spoiler and sculpted fender bulges. Also from 1971, the AMX was no longer available as a two-seater. It was now a high-performance edition of the Javelin, they got a fiberglass full-width cowl induction hood, the grille needed to be flush for improved airflow, so it received a stainless steel mesh over the standard Javelin's deep opening The Go Package was also available; extra gauges, better suspension and brakes, LSD, T-stripe hood decal, and a blacked-out rear taillight panel For 1972 it got a new egg crate grille replacing the fine 71 grille. Australian Motor Industries (AMI) assembled right hand drive versions of the Javelin in Victoria, Australia from CKD kits. The right hand drive dash, interior and soft trim, as well as other components were locally manufactured. The cars were marketed under the historic Rambler name.
