Deutsch: 28.04.1972 DDR 6900 [07743] Jena, Platz der Kosmonauten (-> Johannisplatz): Hochhaus (GMP: 50.928990,11.584650) des VEB Carl Zeiss Jena. Es ist das markanteste Gebäude in Jena und, mit seiner runden Bauform ein Fernrohr symbolisierend, das Wahrzeichen für die optische Industrie der DDR. Mit rund 160 Metern Höhe ist es das höchste Bürogebäude im Osten Deutschlands. Es wurde von 1969 bis 1972 von Prof. Hermann Henselmann, einem der bekanntesten Architekten der DDR, geplant. Nach der Wende wurde der Begriff "Jentower" geprägt. Derartige Hochhäuser, die in ihrer Form die ansässige Industrie symbolisieren, wurden seinerzeit in verschiedenen Großstädten der DDR geplant und teilweise auch errichtet. So erinnert das Hochhaus in Magdeburg mit seiner Sechseckform an eine Schraube für den dortigen Schwermaschinenbau, das Uni-Hochhaus in Leipzig an ein aufgeschlagens Buch.
