Description

New Zealand. The Hillman Motor Car Company was established in 1907. In 1928, was taken over by Humber and in 1931, the Rootes Group. The last Hillman rolled of the production line in 1967, when the Rootes Group was taken over by the Chrysler Corporation. The Hillman Hunter was built in the UK from 1966-79, available as a 4 door saloon, 5 door estate or a 2 door coupe. Badge engineered versions were the Singer Vogue, Singer Gazelle and the Humber Sceptre Mk III (upmarket versions of the Hunter) New Zealand importer and CKD assembler Todd Motors also created its own unique versions of the Arrow line. The single 1967 launch version was almost identical to its UK counterpart but Todd started to use its own upholstery designs from the 1969. For 1970, it added a silver rear trim panel and a 'by Chrysler' boot lid badge. The upmarket Singer Vogue was also available there, replaced in 1971 by the Hunter GL. the 1972 update saw uprated engine, smaller squarer headlights and new dash. In 1976, the Hunter received a four headlight frontal treatment similar to that of the Hunter GLS model and the Humber Sceptre. The Super version also featured an aluminium-head engine along with reclining seats and simulated wood treatment for the facia and door sills.
