Description1987 Fender MiJ Precision Bass (SN E769792) Neck (1) - PB-557.jpg |
The neck of my 1987 Fender Precision Bass (Made in Japan). I bought it brand new in 1990 (it even smelled new!), but the serial number E769792 shows it (or at least the neck) was made between 1984 and 1987. The bottom of the neck is stamped with “PB-557” (unlike the body's “PB-562”). I believe this designates it is a (late) 1957 re-issue neck. It has a 7.25" radius, the classic old-style tuners, and it's a nice thick neck. Still unsure what the red G designates.. 1957 was the year they transitioned from a Telecaster style headstock to the more modern big Stratocaster style headstock I believe.. And I've heard the factory in Japan would commonly just grab random components off the shelf and assemble them in the 80's, which would explain the '62 body coupled to the '57 neck.. I took the neck off tonight after truss rod adjustments failed to correct the noticeable bow in the neck.. Years and years of no adjustments has taken its toll. I've loosened the truss rod nut a bunch to let it relax for a bit for now. I think I have a plan to help straighten it though.. Gonna sleep on it a couple dozen nights before I do anything though. |
