Deutsch: 13.09.2004 01968 Dresden, Straßburger Platz: In den Scheiben der gläsernen Manufaktur / VW-Fabrik (GMP: 51.044613,13.755500 ) spiegeln sich die DDR-Plattenbauwohnungen an der Stübelallee (postalisch Comeniusstraße). Am 27. Juli 1999 legt Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder auf dem früheren Ausstellungsgelände am Straßburger Platz den Grundstein für den Bau einer "Gläsernen Manufaktur". Zu den Gästen zählten auch Ministerpräsident Kurt Biedenkopf und VW-Vorstand Ferdinand Piech. Während der Planungsphase gab es zahlreiche Proteste von Tier- und Landschaftsschützern gegen den vorgesehenen Standort in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Großen Garten. Die nach Plänen des Münchner Architekten Gunter Henn für den Volkswagenkonzern errichtete Autofabrik mit ihrem 40 Meter hohen Turm produziert seit 2002 vor allem die Luxuslimousine Phaeton, wobei hier lediglich die Endmontage erfolgt.
