DDR-Zeit bekannt durch seine markante, inzwischen demontierte Leuchtschrift "Der Sozialismus siegt" am südwestlichen Dachdrempel. Der 14geschossige 5-MP-Plattenbau mit 140 Wohnungen mit Flachbau in Stahlbetonskelettbauweise (Gaststätte 408 Plätze) wurde in der Zeit von 1964-1966 nach Plänen der Architekten Peter Sniegon (Städtebau) und dem Planerkollektiv Hans Löschau, H. Kriesche, G. Landraf als Appartementhochhaus mit Flachbau-Gaststättenkomplex am Pirnaischen Platz errichtet. Rechts im Bild die 15geschossigen Plattenbau-Hochhäuser, beginnend mit Grunaer Straße 6 (GMP: 51.048143,13.746597). Die fünf fünfzehngeschossigen Hochhäuser wurden von 1968 bis 1970 mit insgesamt 450 Wohnungen entlang der Grunaer Straße errichtet. Bei diesen Gebäuden handelt es sich um eine vom VEB Baukombinat Dresden an die Dresdner Verhältnisse angepasste Modifikation des 1963 von Josef Kaiser für den Standort Berlin-Schillingstraße entworfenen siebzehnstöckigen Wohnhochhauses. Der Entwurf wurde 1964 für Dresden übernommen und musste zunächst den technischen Möglichkeiten des Dresdner Plattenwerkes angepasst werden, was unter anderem zu Veränderungen der Grundrisse führte.
