Description
Deutsch: 04.09.2006 01257 Dresden-Niedersedlitz, Stephensonstraße: Rest des ehemaligen Kulturhauses der Sachsenwerker (GMP: 51.003907,13.826830). Der Begründer des Sachsenwerkes, Oskar Ludwig Kummer, hatte 1877 seine technische Anstalt nach

Niedersedlitz verlegt und baute u.a. Motoren für Straßenbahnen. Das Kulturhaus wurde bis 1952 mit Unterstützung der SDAG (Sowjetisch-Deutsche Aktiengesellschaft) errichtet. Unter der Leitung des Architekten war Fritz August Franz entstand ein modernes Mehrzweckgebäude, das am 12. Februar 1952 als erstes Betriebskulturhaus in Sachsen eröffnet wurde. Bis 1989 fanden hier regelmäßig Theateraufführungen, Tanzveranstaltungen und Versammlungen statt. Mit der Privatisierung des Sachsenwerkes wurde das Kulturhaus 1990 geschlossen und in eine Diskothek umgewandelt. Unter dem Namen "Sachs" eröffnete hier 1991 eine der ersten Großraumdiskotheken im Dresdner Raum. In einem Seitenflügel entstand das Chinarestaurant "Pavillon". 1995 brannte das Gebäude aus, vermutlich durch Brandstiftung. die Ruine stand seitdem leer. Der größte Teil des ehemaligen Kulturhauses, der Saal, wurde nach 2004 abgerissen. Am 05.12.2006 wurde der kümmerliche Rest des Kulturhauses als "Haus der VEM" eröffnet, das für
