Description BioProcess Algae Senior Scientist Toby Ahrens shows Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack (right) how attached growth slows carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to pump adjacent facilities directly into the reactor headspace at the BioProcess Algae facility at Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE), Inc. on Friday, April 15, 2011 in Shenandoah, IA. Secretary Vilsack spoke at the Grand Opening of Phase II at GPRE. Phase II is a key component in the commercial scale photo bioreactors/harvesters during a tour of the facility. Secretary was at the facility for the grand opening ceremony The operation is co-located within an GPRE’s ethanol factory and where BioProcess Algae technology is used to waste products; carbon dioxide, recycled heat and water to mass-produce algae. Algae from this facility are used for animal feeds, pharmaceutical and beauty products. USDA photo by Lance Cheung.
