schilderijen van UB LeidenEdit

Hallo Maarten,

Unknown value as creatorEdit

I have a hunch that edits of this type is plain wrong and should be fixed. You state that the author is unknown, but that is not the case, you just didn't do proper research to find the correct item. Can you please pause your bot and make sure this is not repeated into thousands or millions of statements? Ainali (talk) 17:33, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

It's not "unknown", it's "some value", that's something quite different and not incorrect. It's a wiki, feel free to improve items. Multichill (talk) 18:35, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
I apologize, the translation to Swedish for "some value" was wrong in Translatewiki (literally unknown value). I have fixed it now. Thanks for helping me spot it! Ainali (talk) 22:34, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
The translation and usage seem to be mix on the scale from (for persons): "we know who it is, but haven't found the item for the person" to "no clue who this is". In the future we should have SPARQL than it should be easy to replace these statements if we want to. At the moment I'd rather not do that on a large scale because I don't want to encourage vanity items. I'm still silently hoping for the magic data type which accepts items, url's and strings.... Multichill (talk) 22:42, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Appologies for jumping in. Could someone direct me to where it is possible to change/propose a change for the translation of "some value". The German translation is also off. It back-translates to "unknown value" not "some value without a wikidata item". Which also lead to my question a couple of threads above. --Schlurcher (talk) 08:13, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
@Schlurcher: Sure, it is here, but it shouldn't be "some value without a wikidata item" but rather "some value that I do not know (but which could have a wikidata item)". Ainali (talk) 18:42, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Multichill, I have some questions, too. ;-) When I look at the bot's changes, e.g. diff, I see a lot of informations about "creator". But when I look at the description page and open the "Structured data" tab, the entry "creator" is empty. Is this normal?
And additional: Would it be reasonable to have Creator:Steffen Prößdorf oder d:Q58323561 there? And if yes, is there a possibility for me, to change all my files in my usercat with VisualFileChange? Sorry for bugging you... Regards, --Stepro (talk) 00:48, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

So the interface hasn't really caught up yet. When it's done, it should properly show it. The task for that is phab:T239172.
As mentioned above, I currently don't add items for creator (P170) because I don't want to encourage vanity items. In the future we should have SPARQL for structured data on Commons (see phab:T141602). This should make it really easy to find and replace these cases. Please give it some time. Multichill (talk) 17:38, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Hallo, ...Edit

... seit Tagen und massenhaft macht dein Bot bei meinen Fotos folgende Edit: [1]. Was hat das für einen Sinn? Gruß -Bwag (talk) 07:52, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi, please have a look at Commons:Structured data (German version). I hope that explains it. Multichill (talk) 17:31, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi! A voice from the past!Edit

Hi! How are you doing? As you might have noticed then I have been away from Wikipedia and Commons for some time. I started doing some stuff again and I have a problem on lb.wiki.

I would like to empty lb:Kategorie:Fichieren ouni maschinneliesbar Lizenz and the other categories like it.

To do so I need to fix metadata per m: File metadata cleanup drive/How to fix metadata but I could use a little help.

I asked for help at m:Talk:File_metadata_cleanup_drive/How_to_fix_metadata#lb.wiki. If you know how and have a little time it would be nice if you could have a look.

Also I wonder if text like this "<div id="Schabloun_Bild-PD-al>" is needed on the license templates. You can see them all on lb:Kategorie:Schabloune fir Billerlizenzen but if someone help me fix a few I can do the rest.

I plan to move files to Commons if possible but they do have some "problem files". --MGA73 (talk) 16:11, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

@MGA73: welcome back! Good to see you're back. I'll have a look at it later. 21:03, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! I see things changed here with structured data and we can now import files yay!
I saw a big danish file collection some months ago that I thought we could import but I forgot about it because I was not active. Do you still import files if I find it again? --MGA73 (talk) 05:59, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
@Multichill: Hi! Have you forgotten me? I could still need help on lb.wiki :-) --MGA73 (talk) 17:06, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
@MGA73: haven't done this for ages. Looking at the category I see quite a few fair use files like lb:Fichier:BeerErica.jpg for which I would expect this to fix it? Multichill (talk) 18:02, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! --MGA73 (talk) 18:19, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Puoi darmi indicazioni? grazie michele

Hello, concerning the monument "Palataki" at limenaria Thasos, I have to inform you, that you are totally wrong. The palataki in Limenaria was a very small building in Limenaria, built also by the same company as the big Palati around 1904, tared down in 1983 (see my foto under "Haubi" in Wikimedia).Gerhard Haubold 15:42, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

@Bernhard Moltke: you would have to ask user:Krd, but given your edit pattern I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up blocking you, deleting all your uploads and placing your user page in Category:Sockpuppets of A3cb1. Multichill (talk) 17:23, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Commons:Bots/Work_requests#Adding_license_info_to_the_Beeld_en_Geluid_wikiEdit

Hi Multichill! It looks like there are thousands of freely licensed images there that we could transfer to Commons. Do you know anything about it? Could it be right that the files are in fact free and okay for us to grap? --MGA73 (talk) 09:25, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Was mentioned on the Dutch village pump with a link to Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Eurovision Song Contest 1980 photo sessions. I'm just going to wait a bit and see how that evolves. Multichill (talk) 11:20, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
Great! It looks like they have some cool pictures including some Danish singers! If the files are good it is better to have a bot upload them than have random users upload them and ask for license review or make crappy a source. --MGA73 (talk) 12:16, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
It ended as keep. I have not heard from them about adding a license so I poked them on the Beeld en Geluid wiki. It will of course be easier if you talk to them as you understand Dutch and is our best bot operator! --MGA73 (talk) 17:01, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello Multichill, as discussed in Bruxelles I'm here to ask suggestions on how to proceed with the mass migration of WLM-ID. We currently have 3 different kinds of IDs, all made up by WMIT for lack of any official ID.

There was a discussion where it was agreed to supersede the custom WLM IDs with a Wikidata-centric model. I've checked the lists and I confirm all currently listed monuments are on Wikidata.

The easiest way would be to first go through all files with {{Monumento italiano}}, match their ID on Wikidata's P2186, add a parameter "wikidata=" the corresponding Q-ID. Then go through all the items with a P2186 and P143 WLM-IT, add the Q-ID as new ID with the same qualifiers and references, mark all previous IDs as deprecated. Then we can edit the template and various workflows to only use the Wikidata ID and to gradually add various checks to the template (for instance whether the Wikidata item is really in WLM or not, and other quality controls that the arbitrary access allows).

Is this something your bot can do? Nemo 11:29, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

@Nemo bis: (from a talk page stalker) In case it's of use, {{MonumentID}} exists since last year (and there's a test version that uses structured data at {{MonumentID/SDC}}) - it's a single template that can handle multiple identifiers if they're on Wikidata. I'm happy to make modifications to that to suit, if it would be useful more widely (last year, Brazil and Portugal used it), and I can probably also help with the migration if there's a list of old IDs and new QIDs. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 17:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
@Nemo bis, Mike Peel: shouldn't we be adding depicts (P180) in the process here? I already created User:ErfgoedBot/Depicts monuments.js some time ago to assist in the process.
Thinking out loud here:
  1. Add depicts statements to all the files based on the current id
  2. Replace {{Monumento italiano}} with some generic template that pulls data from depicts (P180)
Something like that? Multichill (talk) 18:33, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
That's what {{MonumentID/SDC}} does, try it and see what you think. :-) Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:36, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

SDC modelling and {{Information}} templateEdit

I have been working a bit lately on Module:Information/sandbox and I think I can handle all the possible formats of "source", "author", and "date" fields I encountered in your uploads, so in the case the field is missing from the {{Information}} template the data can be accessed from SDC. I would like to make sure I captured all the currently used formats, so I can test the code. You can see output of Module:Information/sandbox if you replace {{Information}} template with {{Information/sandbox}} and remove most fields. I attempt to mark fields which come from SDC with  , I would like to also link them to specific SDC properties, but still waiting on phabricator:T241338. If I missed any formats can you give example files?

Before any future rollout of the proposed changes I would also like to make sure that all of those modeling formats are documented in Commons:Structured_data/Modeling. I updated "source" and "date" sub-pages and will work on Commons:Structured_data/Modeling/Author, but it would be great if you check the documentation for completeness, accuracy and clarity. --Jarekt (talk) 17:49, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

@Jarekt: oh great! {{Information/sandbox}} seems broken at the moment. Can you fix it?
I'll have another pass at the modeling pages. I was also planning to write some Wiki Loves Monuments and structured data documentation so might be some overlap here.
Maybe a good pilot is to start with the Geograph uploads. I would love to just throw something like {{Geograph from structured data}} (and categories) in the wikitext and everything is grabbed from structured data. File:Cottages at Garneddwen - geograph.org.uk - 750937.jpg is a nice example file for that. Multichill (talk) 18:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
Fixed {{Information/sandbox}} (some issue with "demo" mode). I also added {{Information/sandbox}}{{Location}} to File:Cottages at Garneddwen - geograph.org.uk - 750937.jpg, to show the output. I do not think you would need {{Geograph from structured data}} in the future, you will just need "{{Information}}{{Location}}{{Object Location}}" plus license, which I guess we can put in {{Geograph from structured data}}, although I do not like hiding licenses in templates like that, so any license change would show up in file history. --Jarekt (talk) 19:19, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

{{Structured Data}} is probably half-way there, and I can probably simply it if things are already included via {{Information}}. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:54, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Mike, My plans are to add most frequently found SDC cases to {{Information}} but at the moment the look of the information template will not change much. It will still have the same few fields it always had (I am thinking about adding support for "location" = location (P276) used for years by {{Information2}} ). Maybe {{Structured Data}} should expand on {{Information}} template and support other SDC properties like depict, etc. --Jarekt (talk) 19:19, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
@Jarekt: My hope with {{Structured Data}} is that it will pull together all of the relevant templates, so we can just include one template in the file page wikicode, and we can then evolve the template code without having to make more edits to all of the files after the initial transition. The complication there is data migration, which is why it provides various parameters to show extra information temporarily. It already adds the license template as well as the others, provided it's properly set up on Wikidata. I have two suggestions for {{Information}} right now. First, please add an option to pass descriptions to {{Information}} that are displayed alongside the current values, rather than replacing them. Second, just adding location (P276) support won't be enough, you'll need to follow the template tree. The "location" function in Module:WikidataIB mostly does this, so I'd suggest using that, but also see the additional tweaks in {{Wikidata Infobox}}. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:51, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
@Jarekt: Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments/Structured data is still work in progress, but should give a good overview. Multichill (talk) 20:11, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
@Jarekt: I created {{Geograph from structured data}} and applied it to one file: File:Cottages at Garneddwen - geograph.org.uk - 750937.jpg. Can you update the template? Multichill (talk) 21:23, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Sure, but I can not get to it immediately. It is beginning of the month and I need to do Commons:Photo_challenge stuff. --Jarekt (talk) 22:43, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@Jarekt: sure, doing some first tests, see File:Midsummer Sunset at Underhoull, Shetland Islands, Great Britain - geograph.org.uk - 6000005.jpg and other files. Not done yet. Multichill (talk) 22:32, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Possible error by botEdit

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:House,_Headquarters_of_the_Union_of_Romanian_Architects.JPG&diff=397977853&oldid=316671887

Your bot says source of file (P7482) is original creation by uploader (Q66458942), but I am the uploader and I would say that's pretty misleading, since it was a crop of someone else's work. - Jmabel ! talk 23:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

No, the original uploader is User:Bogdan-caraman. The file is tagged with {{Own}} ("own work") and {{Self}}) ("I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby publish it under the following license:"). Even the exif confirms this. So no error here. Multichill (talk) 08:33, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Jmabel If you cropped a picture should there not be a link to where you found the the picture? --MGA73 (talk) 16:04, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Yes, and absolutely there is. But the "uploader" for the cropped file is me. Further, this is the objection I have long had to {{Own}}: it is very confusing for derivative works such as this. -
Jmabel Strange I don't see the link. I only see "Source: Own". --MGA73 (talk) 17:32, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
My apologies, now I see what happened. I cropped this to remove something that was a copyvio (modern building in a country with no FOP), then deleted the original version that contained the copyvio. So, with that original upload deleted, the oldest remaining upload here is mine. So it has become very confusing: User:Bogdan-caraman was, indeed, the original uploader, but the oldest remaining visible upload is not his. So "original creation by uploader" is not exactly an error, but it is potentially misleading.
I'm sure this case is unusual, but I'm equally sure it is not unique. - Jmabel ! talk 00:42, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

broken {{SDC statement exist}}Edit

I think I fixed the issues with {{SDC statement exist}}. --Jarekt (talk) 23:43, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I used it on several templates for several tracking categories and I haven't run into any issues. Multichill (talk) 21:00, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

geograph.org.uk and next?Edit

Hi Multichill, I saw that your bot is currently structuring the geograph.org.uk uploads. I'm planning to structure the the panoramio and bundesarchiv uploads once I have some time. I thought I'll let you know, so we do not invest time on the same projects. I will use your geography.org.uk structure as a starting point. Regarding panoramio, my bot just finished a run to replace all links with archived versions. I need to repeat this anyhow for the ones that had error due to unavailability of archive.org, so I will combine both tasks. It might still take some more weeks until I can finally start on this. --Schlurcher (talk) 12:37, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

@Schlurcher: yes, it's good to coordinate. Wiki Loves Monuments (+related) and Geograph is what I'm currently doing. No plans yet what to work on after that. Maybe just do a pass on all photos that have {{Own}}, {{Self}} and {{Location}}.
Beware of files that are not born digital. I file like File:Torre de Rambla (Menorca, 2 de agosto de 2014) 01.JPG is a digital photo so we just have to describe one thing. If you take a analog photo that got digitized like File:Bundesarchiv Bild 183-1988-0908-049, Gloria Siebert, Cornelia Oschkenat.jpg, you have two concepts: The original photo and the digital copy. You have to be careful with modelling that. Multichill (talk) 22:11, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!Edit

  The Technical Barnstar
The work you're doing with BotMultichill to transform conventional descriptions into structured data is a big step forward. Thank you very much! abián 22:20, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Structured dataEdit

Hello! I've seen your questions at Commons talk:Structured data and Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments/Structured data. IMO some properties are difficult to set, like location of creation (P1071). The information of a street (and house number) would be nice, but there are only some cases where it can be set. There are a few questions that you might or might want to answer me.

Currently I'm adding or modifying the following properties:

I'm not supporting coordinate location (P625) yet.

The data to be set is based on the informations at the file page and a really huge configuration file, but all based on the way I'm building my filenames, categorization and file description.

My to do list still contains a few points, including the following:

  • Handle copyright exemption (P7152) for Freedom of Panorama
  • Handle Awards etc. like POD, POTY, Participations WLM/WLE/... with ranking and so on (QI, VI and FP are set as structured data, may be I'll add the date in the future)
  • Handle EXIF data (only as group, but no suitable property found)
  • Handle hints to trademarks and personality rights
  • Handle attribution for CC lincenses
  • Handle technical information like HDRI or Panoramics/Stitching
  • Handle or grouping structured data, for example all license and author informations as a group

I'd found a lot of discussions, but no sample or guideline as answer for my to do list. Do you have any hint how to handle these informations as structured data? I know, answering the questions is a little bit of work, a hint or link would be enough. Your knowledge in structured data is much better than mine. Thank you. --XRay talk 08:20, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

XRay and Multichill, I noticed your conversation and I am also very interested in developing SDC modeling standards. I think, you two are at the moment the only people mass adding SDC statements, and in a way you are defining the standards. I was working lately on subpages of Commons:Structured data/Modeling cataloging the standards found in the wild, and I think those pages might be a better forum for making that kind of decisions (even if those pages are often very quiet). XRay, as for your question about some of the license related properties, I think those properties should follow standards used on Wikidata, see d:Help:Copyrights. Those are more developed for PD works than for licensed works but they should follow similar general structure. For example see about grouping of license and author info there. I assume that by "attribution for CC lincenses" you mean statements added by Template:Credit line? If so I think we might need to propose new property for that. I will look into expanding Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Copyright, first by cataloging current standards and than proposing new ones. Hope to talk with both of you more about that there. --Jarekt (talk) 15:49, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
Just a short answer: Yes, the attribution is the credit line. It's important, because it's part of the license agreement. --XRay talk 17:12, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
BTW: My bot is working for my photographs only. And IMO there is another bot adding structured data too. --XRay talk 05:03, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Your bot and coordinate sourceEdit

Your bot is adding the source information to files. I think you are using the information from "imageinfo" "metadata"/"commonmetadata". The problem is that this only contains files where the location information is in the file EXIF and as there is a MediaWiki bug not even at every of these files. This is easy so solve by using the "coordinates" property. --GPSLeo (talk) 09:25, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

That assumption is incorrect. I just parse the templates like {{Location}}. Multichill (talk) 17:14, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
Ah, then you are only parsing location templates with the decimal degree syntax but not the DMS syntax. --GPSLeo (talk) 19:26, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
Yes. Focus was mainly Wiki Loves Monuments and Geograph. Both don't use DMS syntax. Multichill (talk) 20:59, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Old Danish mapsEdit

Hi! Do you think it would be possible for your bot to upload all maps from https://hkpn.gst.dk/ to Commons (except Seamaps ("Søkort"). If yes we will of course need to work on categories, templates etc. But first I would like to know if your bot can access the files. Also I would like to know how many maps there are there. --MGA73 (talk) 17:48, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

@MGA73: It's all in Danish so I'm a bit lost. I would just send them an email about maybe working together by sharing their content here. Multichill (talk) 20:58, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Naaa that sounds too simple :-D I will ask them! --MGA73 (talk) 21:06, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Integration with Commons app?Edit

Hi Multichill,

We (the Commons app) have been thinking about integrating Campaigns (e.g. WLM) further into our app, and someone pointed me to you as the person to talk to about this. :) Would you be interested in collaborating on this?

Misaochan (talk) 17:28, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

@Misaochan: long ago we even build a Commons app for Wiki Loves Monuments, see mw:Wiki Loves Monuments mobile application.
That app didn't really work out. Would be nice to something more up to date and maybe learn from the experience of the previous app?
Also looking forward to have IOS support for the app. Uploading photos is hard now.
I'm not really into mobile development myself, but I can give feedback. Will you be at the upcoming hackathon in Tirana? Multichill (talk) 18:37, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for linking the old mobile app to me, that will help us figure out what direction to go in, indeed.
We have just submitted a Project Grant proposal for developing an iOS port for the Commons app, actually. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts on it. :)
I won't be at the hackathon in Tirana, but at least one of our core developers will be attending. Will you be there? If you are, I can let her know to meet up with you. I think basic WLM integration into the Commons app might be a nice hackathon project, too. We wouldn't need you to do actual development, but would love to have your input on potential features.
Cheers! Misaochan (talk) 11:30, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

copyright status of CC0-FilesEdit

Why do CC0-Files get copyright status copyrighted and not public domain (see [2])? --WaldiWuff (talk) 21:36, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Because CC0 is a license. A file is in copyright and with {{Cc0}} you release all copyright, but it isn't actually in the public domain. Multichill (talk) 21:51, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
But its mildly disturbing and not in the spirit of the CC0-Licence. And also: @Schlurcher: and his SchlurcherBot has the same approach as me: [3]. --WaldiWuff (talk) 20:03, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
I do agree with @WaldiWuff: 100% and partly with you, Multichill. As your answer implied, there is a difference between a public domain tag and the CC0-License. Whereas the public domain tag simply states that the file is in the public domain (i.e. was in the public domain before uploading), a file can be properly licensed with CC0. After licensed with CC0, the file is in the public domain. A file licensed elsewhere with a CC0 can be uploaded here with a public domain tag. So then your copyright status (P6216) would change? This does not seem correct. For CC0, it do treat copyright status (P6216) as for PD, but give them a copyright license (P275) as for all other files with a license. On the other hand, I do not add copyright license (P275) to files with PD, as PD is not a license. I think you should change your copyright status (P6216) handling of files with CC0. I would keep copyright license (P275) as is. --Schlurcher (talk) 20:34, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
This approach is also backed up by Commons:Licensing section Material in the public domain: "Material released under a license like CC-0 is considered the equivalent of public domain material; " --Schlurcher (talk) 20:45, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
In some jurisdictions you can not release your work to public domain, and the only way your work can become public domain is when your copyrights expire. However you can release your work under any license, including CC0, which is like public domain, but not exactly. For example, you are still the copyright holder, and you request that people using the work do "not imply endorsement by the author". --Jarekt (talk) 04:32, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
@WaldiWuff, Schlurcher, Jarekt: I so happen to live in a country where you can't put it in the public domain so here it's a license, but I'm pragmatic. I like to have clean data and not the structured data on Commons equivalent of {{PD}}. When you use copyright status (P6216) -> public domain (Q19652) it should always have a qualifier to explain why the file is in the public domain. So you should figure out the right qualifier(s) to add to indicate that it's considered public domain because someone used {{Cc-zero}}. That might also solve the modeling problem of {{PD-self}}. Based on the qualifiers I see on copyright status (P6216), I would probably do something like determination method (P459) -> "put in the public domain by copyright holder". I don't mind having this conversation here, but maybe better to copy it to Commons talk:Structured data/Modeling/Copyright? Multichill (talk) 17:32, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
I have opened a discussion there. I do not like a text string for the qualifier, so I made another proposal. --Schlurcher (talk) 19:40, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
@Schlurcher: my intention was never a text string, but an item. I couldn't find one so that's why I used "put in the public domain by copyright holder". Of course that should be an item. I'll continue over there. 19:42, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Er gaat iets mis met BotMultichillEdit

Dag, Multichill.

Multichill (talk) 22:30, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Maybe don't publish "download=" from Geograph?Edit

BotMultichill has recently uploaded some images from Geograph Britain and Ireland, for instance File:Cow Gap - geograph.org.uk - 6000000.jpg. In the first revision it logged the full URL it got the image file from, including the "download" parameter. As I understand it, this parameter is included in the URL to make it hard to generate Geograph image URLs without first fetching another page from Geograph. Obviously, if your bot were to make all the URLs of images on Geograph publicly visible, that would rather defeat the purpose of the parameter, so you might want to suppress it from the published URLs. --bjh21 (talk) 22:20, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

@Bjh21: Yeah, I can change it to something else. This was just a quick modification of the bot I used to upload images like File:Izegem Molstraat 75 - 142504 - onroerenderfgoed.jpg. Probably https://www.geograph.org.uk/reuse.php?id=6000000 is a nice option. What do you think? I still have to improve some other things and get rid of some bugs. Multichill (talk) 22:35, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
@Bjh21:   Done didn't forget about this, see File:Regia House, Teignmouth - geograph.org.uk - 6000794.jpg. Multichill (talk) 16:33, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

How to find all monumentsEdit

Hi! This File:Domprovstgården 02.jpg uses {{Fredet bygning|265-13708-1}}. I forgot how to find all photos of the same monument. As far as I remember you can find them with one or a few clicks? --MGA73 (talk) 17:28, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?sort=relevance&search="265-13708-1" works. Monuments database has an index for images too, but not sure if that still works. Multichill (talk) 17:34, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

File:US Navy 100324-N-0000G-001 Nigerian navy Seaman H.O. Dairo watches as the German navy Type 702 Berlin-class combat support ship Frankfurt AM MAIN (A 1412) conducts a refueling at sea with Gunston Hall.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion.

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: This still image is not "PD-USN": according to its description, it was taken by a Nigerian sailor ("Nigerian navy photo by Petty Officer 1st Class P.O. Gbarufu/Released"). Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Nigeria does not list an exemption oder PD clause for governmental works, hence, it would be a copyvio.
Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Files from the Metropolitan Museum of ArtEdit

Some files of the Met-Museum have been uploaded before. For example File:MET DP153888.jpg / File:Wang Wu - Peony - 1989.363.140 - Metropolitan Museum of Art.jpg. Your files have the better file names. The old ones have the better description. Is it possible to transfer the descriptions to the new files? --RobertLechner (talk) 18:54, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

@RobertLechner: transfering the descriptions is just a matter of copy and paste. So that's easy. I only left out the permission field because the {{Cc-zero}} is already further down the page.
@Pharos, Fuzheado: any thoughts on this? It's weird that the files look the same, but are not exactly the same (otherwise the software would have flagged it).

Hi Multichill! I wonder. Do we usually delete "old" files or do we keep them? What if someone used one of the files in a book and wrote the file on Commons as a source? We do not free any space by "deleting" the files. --MGA73 (talk) 10:54, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
See my comment on the deletion request, no should never be deleted IMHO. Akoopal (talk) 14:55, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Commons:Monuments databaseEdit

Hi Multichill, you recommended here the monuments database. In the federal state Brandenburg every cultural heritage monuments (CHM) has a certain ID (BLDAM object ID (P2081)?) and is registrated in a wikipedia-list. Only some of them are brought to wikidata. In the wikipedia there is a parameter for the wikidata-item. Is there a way to write the wikidata-item back into the wikipedia-list.

for example de:Liste der Baudenkmale in Senftenberg at ID 09120153, 09120387 or 09120388 the Wikidata-Item is maintained into the template.

How does it work to bring all CHM to wikidata. All lists in the federal state Brandenburg use the same template for tables and all of them are stored in de:Kategorie:Liste (Baudenkmale in Brandenburg). Greetings from Dresden (If it works maybe we can step to the next federal state :-) ) --Z thomas 05:58, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

@Z thomas:. Yes, it's possible to add the id to the list. The approach I took and I would recommend you take too:
  1. Make sure you add the id to as many existing items as possible to prevent too many duplicates. For example on the list I see Niederlausitzhalle which links to Q1231075 (Q1231075), but that doesn't have a BLDAM object ID (P2081).
  2. Import missing items from the monuments database to Wikidata. I thought it was already in there, but looks like phab:T55269 is still open. I'll have a look at it. Shouldn't be too hard to add it. Once it's in there. It's easier to sync between the lists on Wikipedia and the items on Wikidata.
  3. Add the Wikidata id's to list rows in Wikipedia. For that I used [4]. Could be modified for other lists. I recall it did produce a couple of errors so output should be checked.

Transferring files to CommonsEdit

Hi! I wanted to move all files from vi:Thể_loại:Cuisine_of_Vietnam to Commons but I can either do it one-by-one with FileImporter or try the bot. When I try the bot it keeps failing. Do you know how to transfer the images? I plan just to put all the files in Category:Cuisine of Vietnam. Then they can be put in better categories when someone come around that speaks Vietnamese :-) --MGA73 (talk) 16:06, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Just a SDC questionEdit

May be, that you can help. I'm adding image notes to my photographs, so objects can be located. And I've seen a qualifier adding these positions to the depicts statement. And I can't find a manual or at least an example how to add this qualifier. Do you know which qualifier is possible to transfer this rectable from image notes to the qualifier? (The transfer will be done by my bot, I need an example for property and qualifier or data type.) Thank you in advance! --XRay talk 12:00, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

@XRay: do you have one or more example images? Multichill (talk) 12:04, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
This one is an example for an image note: File:Coesfeld, Walkenbrückentor -- 2014 -- 4078.jpg. But I haven't an example with suitable SDC data. That's what I'm looking for. But I'm nearly sure that I've seen one, but I can't find it. The rectangle of the image note was added as qualifier. So the data type should have 4 values (left, top, right, bottom or left, top, width, height or similar or a special type "rectangular"). --XRay talk 12:38, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Property found! At Wikidata: relative position within image (P2677) --XRay talk 19:02, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
@XRay: yeah, I knew something was around build by locas, but didn't look it up yet. See for example https://wd-image-positions.toolforge.org/iiif_region/pct:36.3,65.8,26.6,10.8 . See the manual at d:User:Lucas Werkmeister/Wikidata Image Positions. Multichill (talk) 19:38, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! Bot modified and the first items successfull modified. Modifying structured data via bot is a good way, but there are still issues of manual work. And the activity of a bot is better, if the description and categorization of the photograph is good enough. --XRay talk 12:02, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Deletings of your botEdit

Dear Sir,

could you kindly tell your bot to stop the deletion of "church build" on structure dat of churches. If you do a request for church building, all pictures with the assignment "church building" will show up. But you don't get all the churches that have only their names on without the item "church building". So by deleting "church building" you reduce the availability of the database. Sincerly --Hans G. Oberlack (talk) 19:48, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

@Hans G. Oberlack: I'm following the guidelines of Commons:Depicts. You shouldn't be adding church building back. If you don't agree with those I suggest you go to the talk page.
The current search engine is a very suboptimal implementation. In the future you should be able to search for "Church", "Kirche" or "Kerk" and all these files should show up. Multichill (talk) 20:37, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Questionnaire invitation (a new tool to be developed, to verify media data)Edit

Hi there, I'm developing a tool to assist users in verifying (structured) data of media on commons.

To understand the community's needs, I would like to invite you to participate in this questionnaire: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScbNdJdQYN1yBvEeKne48eWDU6SBsdlUfNBAmZyvUEBkCR1Gg/viewform?usp=sf_link. It should take ~2 minutes.

Thanks a lot. :D
