Description
Deutsch: 28.04.2011 04779 Wermsdorf: Evangelische Pfarrkirche (GMP: 51.282338,12.940381). Das barocke Gotteshaus hat einen romanischen Kern und besitzt innen eine historisierende Ausstattung des späten 19. Jahrhunderts. Wenn sich Kurfürst Friedrich August II. von Sachsen (1696-1763) mit seinem Hof in Wermsdorf aufhielt, war die Dorfkirche zugleich die evangelische Hofkirche. Da das Gotteshaus innen nahezu schmucklos war, beauftragte die Kirchgemeinde 1888 den Architekten Theodor Quentin (1851-1905) aus Pirna mit einer Umgestaltung. Theodor Quentin entwarf eine farbige Ausmalung, die allerdings keinem bestimmten Stil folgt. Das Kirchenschiff erhielt eine reich gegliederte Holzdecke mit einer zentralen Kreuzdarstellung. Die Orgel fertigte Paul Schmeisser aus Rochlitz an. Am 22. Mai 1898 wurde die erneuerte Kirche eingeweiht. Da die Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts von den nachfolgenden Generationen als hässlich empfunden wurde, übermalte man die farbigen Dekorationen. Doch mit Hilfe der Gemeindeglieder und der westdeutschen Partnergemeinden wurde das Gotteshaus 1980 bis1983 wieder in den Zustand versetzt, den Theodor Quentin sich erdacht hatte.
