Monastery of San Salvador in Felanitx

Summary

This is a photo of a monument listed in the Spanish heritage register of Bienes de Interés Cultural under the reference RI-51-0008431.

Description

Designation: Santuari de Sant Salvador
Category: Religious building
Construction time: Founded in 1348
Description: The origins of the monastery of San Salvador dates back to King Pere IV. Of Aragon, who gave the order for the construction.

The original pilgrim church was built after a plague on the 509 meter high mountain of the same name.

Since this church was no longer cope with the pilgrims, the present church was built in the year 1715.

1885 the site was auctioned by the City of Felanitx. Until 1992 the monastery was managed by monks.

Since 1992 it is under the direction of two Majorcan families who run a restaurant here and rent rooms.
