Xerocomellus diffractus N. Siegel, C.F. Schwarz & J.L. Frank

Image location: Coconino Co., Arizona, USA

to my wife and asked, “what does the color inside the cracks look like, yellow or pink?” She said “neither”. I pressed the issue and she said “pink”.

Maybe this is just a function of the display on my computer monitor, but when I look at the second photo and then glance away, I see a slight pink flash in the corner of my periphery. Or maybe this is just a function of the psychological phenomenon “completion”. Cuz to me these look like what I call chrysenteron around here.
