Summary

edit
Description To the left of the concrete bridge supports are the stone piers from the original bridge which was washed away during the great French Broad River Flood of 1916. The "new" railroad bridge was built after the flood, and is still in use. I don't know why they didn't reuse the old stone piers. Perhaps they were structurally compromised when the bridge was swept away.
