9 Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers Lt Seggie enlisted with the Public Schools Battalion shortly after the outbreak of war, in September 1914. He received his commission in May 1915 and was posted to the Western Front. He was killed in action, aged 24, at Beaumont Hamel on 1 July 1916 at the start of the Battle of the Somme.
