editDescription3-5, Konopnickiej Street in Warsaw - 03.jpg |
English: A unique example among Central European countries is the apartment building called PAN (Polska Akademia Nauk) inspired by Le Corbusier's principles of modernism (Unité d’habitation), abstract sculptural building floating over pilotis, including big apartments, without tiny flats and with roof terrace and swimming pool in Wiejska Street 20, in Warsaw, Poland, dated 1964 by architect Jerzy Gieysztor. Building was inspired also by World Expo 1937 in Paris, especially in the part of relief walls and entrance roof with round holes. All of apartments are larger than typical ones during the communist period. Facade is covered with artistic ceramics. Glazed balconies represent the op art style. There is also shopping mall and underground parking inside. Example of humanistic architecture, not mass building. Magazine Architektura Murator (02.10.2018) rated it as the best and most innovative example of Polish residential architecture after 1945 among only ten buildings in ranking. After 1989, the narrow and long terrace on the first floor was removed. This terrace was in the place above the parking meter. The arcades on the first floor were also removed and covered with windows. Polski: Blok mieszkalny PAN architekta Jerzego Gieysztora z 1964 roku, ul. Wiejska 20 w Warszawie. Budynek mieszkalny PAN został wyróżniony i zaliczony do dziesięciu "najlepszych, innowacyjnych rozwiązań polskiej architektury mieszkaniowej" po II wojnie światowej według magazynu Architektura Murator (02.10.2018). |
