Description
English: Welcome. All the appeal of a rubbish tip.

On 10 July 2012 the front path to these flats was flanked by two rows of recycling and waste bins. Old green recycling bins were stacked-up. (To be collected?) Black bags were strewn about with waste spilling out. Nearest the front door, a bed left for collection. Some clothing was hanging from one of the new green recycling bins - maybe someone had been scavenging?

What's this about?

This is one of a series of photos I took from June 2012 when Veolia, waste contractors for the London borough of Haringey, put into operation the second phase of new waste management arrangements for 40,000 more households. The new scheme aimed to substantially increase recycling rates.

During the transition period there were numerous problems. Although with this particular house, once the old small recycling boxes were removed, there seemed no reason why the front garden could not return to the tidy arrangement shown by Google Street View in 2011. As you'll see below, the waste bins were kept neatly next to the wall on the left.
