English: A 3 dimensional reconstruction (confocal Z-stack, thickness of planes: 700nm) of the neurovascular unit. Red: PDGFR beta positive pericyte which covers a cortical microvessel (labeled with Cl-5, green). Note the close relationship of astrocytotic endfeet (GFAP, white) that surround the pericyte. An animated fly-through the vessel demonstrates that PDGFR beta is partly co-localizing (yellow) with Cl-5 which is due to the fact the PDGFR beta is a tyrosine kinase located at the cell membrane while Cl-5 is a transmembraneous tight junction linker protein. |
