Notice : Arrivée à la “Pagode Royale” (voir AP0611) de Nha Trang accompagné de M. Chatel, résident supérieur en Annam et de M. Léon Sogny. Sur le 3ème voyage de SM. Bao Dai en Annam en 1933, voir AP0608. Notule : Ville de Nha Trang Nha Trang, “Maison blanche”, est élevée en façade sur la. mer et sur la rive droite du Song Cai, à 409 k. de Saïgon et à 172 k. de Song Cau. Résidence de France pour la province de Khanh Hoa, dont les autorités indigènes siègent à 11 km de là. Institut Pasteur. Terrain d’atterrissage pour avions en bordure de la mer et à 1 km au sud du bourg. Gare du chemin de fer, à 6 km (direction Ba Ngoi et Saïgon). A l’époque du royaume cham, ce bassin côtier formait le pays de Kauthara (nom transcrit par les Chinois en Kou-tan) ; au Sud, la principauté de Panduranga lui était limitrophe. Près de Nha Trang s’élève l’ensemble des monuments cham de Po Nagar. Nha Trang possède des plages magnifiques (voir AP2857 et AP2863), avec de beaux hôtels dont l’Hôtel Beaurivage (voir AP0628 et AP1524). C’est une des plus belles stations de l’Indochine. C’est également un port de pêche important (voir AP4524). Nha Trang est également le siège de l’Institut océanographique de l’Indochine (voir AP1521 et AP1522). C’est près de Nha Trang que fut recueillie la pierre inscrite de Phu Vinh, dite de Vo Canh. Cette stèle, du 3ème siècle, une des plus anciennes inscriptions sanskrites connues, rappelle une fondation d’un descendant du roi Çri Màra. Au 17ème siècle, les Annamites de Hué s’emparèrent de ce pays cham et y constituèrent le Doanh de Thai Khang (jusqu’à la rivière de Phan Rang) en 1653, changé en Binh Khang sous les Tay Son, en trân de Binh Hoa, en 1808, sous Gia Long, en Tinh de Binh Hoa, en 1808 sous Minh Mang. L’époque des fortes pluies est de fin octobre à décembre. L’institut Pasteur est installé au bord de la mer. L’établissement fut créé en 1895 par le Dr Yersin (Monsieur Nam), l’auteur de la découverte du microbe de la peste bubonique, expérimentée à Hong Kong en 1897. C’est depuis 1904 une annexe de l’institut Pasteur de Saïgon. Laboratoire de microbiologie animale. Préparation de vaccins microbiens, de sérums thérapeutiques pour les services indochinois (voir AP0629 et AP0630).
