Description

Apollo 11 Hasselblad image from film magazine 39/Q - Post-Landing, Post-EVA
This photo was used in Figure 3-20 in the Apollo 11 Preliminary Science Report (NASA SP-214), 1969, which has the following caption:

Hasselblad photograph AS11-39-5802 shows scoop sites and scoop movements (indicated by arrows) of five of the approximately 22 bulk sample scoops, as determined from the sequence-camera photographs. Numbers in parentheses indicate the nine trips that were made taking the samples back to the MESA area of the LM to empty the scoop. Numbers without parentheses represent the order in which scoops were taken in the view of only the sequence camera. Most of the trenches left by scooping were destroyed later. Scoops 2, 3, and 5 are within the view of the camera, and the trenches made by these scoops are still visible. Rocks were sampled in scoops 4 and 5.
