A typical wartime scene as a fighter pilot rests on the grass in front of his machine. Maybe he's waiting for his next sortie, or maybe he's recovering from the last one! It could easily be 1944, but it isn't, it's 2013! This is actually a familiar scene from the annual Flying Legends airshow held at Duxford in Cambridgeshire, UK. The aeroplane is a Grumman FM-2 Wildcat and is painted in full Royal Navy markings to represent a Wildcat V of 846sqn, at the time of D-Day in June 1944. It is operated by The Fighter Collection, who organise this airshow every year. Re-enactors in period dress are also a regular part of the show, and add incredible atmosphere. 14-7-2013 |
