Presented by TD and BAND (Black Artists' Network in Dialogue), Clement Virgo Productions and CFC. and hosted by Garvia Bailey (CBC Radio 1), we took a look at Singleton’s influential body of work (BOYZ N THE HOOD, POETIC JUSTICE, SHAFT, BABY BOY) and talked with the iconic filmmaker about his inspirations, his filmmaking process, and reflecting the black experience in film.

Singleton's 1991 film debut Boyz N the Hood received Academy Award® nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay. At 24, he became the youngest person ever nominated for the Best Director Oscar®, as well as the first African-American to be nominated.

This event was part of TD's Then and Now series, an inspiring and entertaining cultural showcase of one of Canada's prominent communities. The lineup of events includes films, concerts, exhibitions, and performances by a host of Canadian and international artists.
