Another Historic Building Destroyed. On July 2nd last, during a severe thunder storm, lightning struck the Reformed church at Middlebush, and it was burned to the ground. The people of the village succeeded in getting considerable of the movable furniture out of the church, including the pulpit, piano and small organ. The pipe organ, installed in 1880, was destroyed, as were the sixteen new memorial windows placed in the building in 1904, mostly gifts of families and individuals. One of the windows was in memory of the long pastorate of Rev. Dr. James LeFevre. This church building had stood in the same location for nearly eighty-three years, the first preaching service in it having been held in September, 1834, about three months after the laying of the corner-stone. It was dedicated February 19, 1835. The addition of the lecture room was completed in 1905. The last service held in the building was a communion service. The total insurance on building and contents was $8,200, which, we judge, will not be more than sufficient to pay for one-third of a new building. Already plans are under way for rebuilding the church.
