Description
Nederlands: Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) graveerde omstreeks 1685 in opdracht van de uitgever Nicolaes Visscher II (1649-1702) een serie prenten van de beroemde tuin van Enghien, even ten zuiden van Brussel. Op deze prent plaatst De Hooghe zijn toeschouwers op het kruispunt van twee lanen. Links ligt de Grote Alleé die verderop uitkomt op het grote meer van het Parc dEnguien. Aan de overzijde ligt het zogenaamde Paviljoen van Samson. Rechts ligt de maliebaan, de speelplaats, waarop zo te zien druk wordt gekolfd. Aan het einde van de maliebaan ligt het Maliehuis, een herberg waar de kolfspelers konden bijkomen van hun inspanning.; Cijfers (27-29, 33-35) worden verklaard in een legenda onderaan de kaart. English: The print shows the complex of pleasure gardens of Enghien near Brussels. The plan is part of a series of prints commissioned by Nicolaes Visscher II (1649-1702) and engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708). De Hooghe has drawn his visitors on the crossroad of two lanes. Left is the Grote Alleé that leads to a great lake in the Parc dEnguien. Across the lake is the Pavilion of Samson. To the right the Maliebaan, the playing grounds, where people are playing the Kolfspel. At the far end of the Maliebaan is the Malie house, an inn for the players to relax.
