Description
English: Thanks to Christiaan and Bernard Schotanus a Steringa the province of Friesland was one of the best mapped provinces in the Dutch Republic. Between 1658 and 1662 Fries territories were surveyed one by one under supervision of Christiaan Schotanus, a professor from Franeker. The survey maps were, after elaboration by his son Bernard, published in 1664 by Christiaan Schotanus in his topographical and historical description of Friesland. In 1665 a large wall map of Friesland was published. This map, published by Nicolaes Visscher I (1618-1679), is a reduction of that wall map.
