Wilhelm Aumer (1883–1958)

Summary edit

Description
English: Wilhelm Aumer (1883–1958) was a German civil servant who felt close to the social democrats. He used his professional function during the Nazi period because of humanitarian reasons and a Christian conviction to actively support the emigration opportunities of Jewish citizens. He successfully tried to save forced laborers accused of crimes from being shot or being deported to concentration camps. Acc. to prosecution proceedings in 1946, Aumer tended to support existing opposition efforts against the Nazi state. This included those persecuted politically, those released from concentration camps, as well as the work of local and regional Catholic and Evangelical Lutheran parishes.
