Buch und Regie: Berthold Heizmann; Mitarbeit: Dagmar Hänel Alltägliche Gegenstände wie Glas, Spiegel, Sanitärkeramik, Porzellan, Farben und Lacke auf Möbeln und Parkett oder auch unser Auto haben eines gemeinsam – für ihre Herstellung benötigt man einen rheinischen Rohstoff: Quarzsand! Abgebaut wird dieser mitten im Rheinland, direkt vor den Toren Kölns bei Frechen. Die Quarzwerke GmbH bauen hier seit über 125 Jahren den Rohstoff ab. Das heute über die deutschen Grenzen hinweg tätige Familienunternehmen setzt über den Standort Frechen jährlich rund 800.000 Tonnen ab. Beliefert werden nicht nur die Glas- und Gießereiindustrie, auch Chemie, Bauindustrie und Bauchemie setzen Rohstoffe aus Frechen ein. Der Hauptfilm zeigt einerseits Abbau und Aufbereitung von Quarzsand, geht aber auch der Frage nach, wie die Quarzwerke den Begriff der Nachhaltigkeit mit Leben füllen. Dazu gehören der richtige Umgang mit dem Rohstoff, die systematische Entwicklung neuer Anwendungen und die sorgfältige Renaturierung ebenso wie die Einbeziehung von Experten und Nachbarn in diese nachhaltigen Prozesse. |
