BLM Winter Bucket List #13: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area, Florida, for Year-Round Summer on Public Lands The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA is located at the confluence of the Loxahatchee River and Indian River Lagoon, just ¼ mile from the Atlantic Ocean in southeastern Florida. In January, Jupiter’s average daily temperatures are in the high 70’s. With balmy air temperatures and a warm ocean (around 78 degrees this time of year), the ONA makes the bucket list if you’re looking to escape to year-round summer on public lands. Much like summer, in winter the ONA offers a range of recreation activities from exploring the cultural and military history associated with the historic 1860 lighthouse to strolling the sites trails to discover a small fragment of natural Florida. For the more adventurous, kayaking the ONA’s shoreline and exploring its lagoon offer unique views of the lighthouse and the opportunity to get close to manatees - who also spend their winters here.
