Summary edit

Description
English: Diesel-mechanical shunter built in 1941 by Andrew Barclay Sons & Co. in their Kilmarnock ‘Caledonia Works’ and given the works number 357.

She was supplied to the War Department who gave her the identity WD42, although this was soon changed to WD70042 in preparation for her use in mainland Europe. She was shipped from Southampton to Cherburg in September 1944 and returned to the UK in June 1946. She later went to the Middle East, returning to the UK in 1955. Renumbered as WD859, she served at several military locations throughout the UK including sites near Bicester, Wolverhampton, Nottingham and Derby. In 1968 she was renumbered ‘Army 202’ before moving from Derby back to Bicester, then to Burton-on-Trent, then York and finally to Longtown in Cumbria. Named ‘Overlord’ in 1992, she is now part of the Royal Engineers Museum collection and is maintained in operational condition. Chatham Historic Dockyard Chatham, Kent, UK
