| Description |
Big Cedar Ridge Fossil Plant Area of Critical Environmental Concern, BLM Wyoming Designated an ACEC in 1997, the site is open to the public for visitation and casual collection of common Cretaceous plant fossils, as well as continued scientific research. The site contains over 175 different plant species preserved in a mudflow of volcanic ash that was deposited over 70 million years ago. This summer a parking lot was constructed and interpretive panels installed. Three panels were developed in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution. A final stage of the site improvements includes a buck and rail fence around the new parking lot. |
