In the center foreground is a wagon chassis with its box lying near two dead horses. In the background, six soldiers stand around with approximately twelve Native American corpses scattered about the base of canyon. Written on the wagon box in white is “No. 3”. Another note written in white on a pile of dirt reads: “Birds Eye View of Canon at Wounded Knee S.D. Copyrighted [illegible] NorthWestern Photo Co. 1891 Chadron Neb.” The verso contains the printed information of the NorthWestern Photographic Company in 1891.
