Description Black hole of Calcutta. In 1756, 146 Europeans were crowded together in a small room and allowed to perish through the cruelty and neglect of Surajah Dowlah Nawab of Bengal. According to government plan, two of the pillars of the Post Office now stand on the site of the famous chamber.
