DescriptionBrown Dog meeting, December 1906.jpg |
Depiction of meeting organized by Lizzy Lind af Hageby in London on 11 December 1906 at Acton Central Hall to discuss the Brown Dog affair. Medical students disrupted the meeting and let off stink bombs. This cartoon was reproduced by The Oregon Daily Journal in 1909. It is thought to have been published first in the Daily Chronicle, date unknown. The Oregon Daily Journal quotes the story from which they took the cartoon: "The rest of Miss Lind-af-Hageby's indignation was lost in a beautiful 'eggy' atmosphere that was now rolling heavily across the hall. 'Change your socks!' shouted one of the students." That quote is identified by Robert K. Ford, The Brown Dog and his Memorial, Euston Grove Press, 2013 [1908], 15–17, as having been published in the Daily Chronicle in 1906, in a story describing the Acton Central Hall meeting. |
