Westdeutsche Düsenjäger mit Eisernem Kreuz als Hoheitszeichen
Als eine "Wiedergeburt der deutschen Luftwaffe" bezeichnete der ehemalige Nazi-Kommandeur der Nachtjäger und jetzige Chef der westdeutschen NATO-Luftstreitkräfte, Generalleutnant Kammhuber, den ersten Start westdeutscher Düsenjäger, der sich am 24.9.1956 unter den Augen von Kriegsminister Blank auf dem NATO-Flugplatz Fürstenfeldbruck bei München vollzog. Die von den USA gelieferten Düsenjäger tragen als Hoheitsabzeichen ein stilisiertes Eisernes Kreuz, ähnlich dem Abzeichen der deutschen Kriegsflugzeuge im Ersten Weltkrieg.
