6 Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers

Captain C G Barton was born in Co. Donegal, Ireland in 1889 and was educated at Cheltenham College and Pembroke College, Cambridge.

He enlisted on the outbreak of war and was gazetted to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in September 1914.

Captain Barton then served in Gallipoli in 1915, where he participated in the landing at Suvla Bay on 7 August and earned the Military Cross.

After being evacuated from Gallipoli, he continued to serve with 10th (Irish) Division as part of the Salonika Force until September 1917 when he was moved to Palestine.

In June 1918, Captain Barton was transferred to the Western Front as part of the force making good the British losses suffered during the German Spring Offensive.

Captain Barton was killed, aged 28, on 17 October 1918, during the heavy fighting which occured in the final weeks of the war. He is buried at Honnechy British Cemetery near Le Cateau.
