Description
English: Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 332 BC and became pharaoh. On the monuments, his Greek name "Alexandros" was transcribed into an oval called cartouche, like those of the ancient Egyptian rulers, by means of the alphabetic signs they had in the hieroglyphic system. On this fragment, it is written from right to left: ALKSINDRS, with on the extreme left the Ankh, the cross of life. Basalt, circa 330 BC AD. Louvre museum (Paris, France).
